In May, the British Columbia Therapeutic Association will be holding their monthly meeting here at Inglewood. Therapist, Wilma Atchison, will be speaking on the topic “Performance Reviews” for recreation professionals. Whether in a management position or not, professionals have an obligation to maintain the standards of practice set by their professional body and to educate associate professionals on the role and responsibilities within their scope of practice. Many professionals are currently being restricted by roles dictated by unions or practicing without support. In either of these circumstances professions need to coach upward within there organizations to make the necessary changes that will demand credibility for their acquired skill and knowledge…

A recent global assessment at Inglewood has highlighted the need for us to re-evaluate how we are implementing our large special events. Given that 70% of our current population is now experiencing some form of dementia, the larger global events are being experienced as confusing and disorienting by many of these residents. The recreation team has decided to implement special events on a smaller scale customize them to the specific units.

Celebration Team Updates

The celebration team would like to acknowledge a number of our staff who are making efforts at developing themselves both personally and professionally. These efforts not only benefit the employee but their co-workers and ultimately our residents….

Diane Donelly who works in our kitchen and has worked here at Inglewood for the past 16 years has recently graduated from Sait – Southern Alberta Institute of Technology with a diploma in Food Services Management. Congratulations Diane, your hard work and perseverance over the past 2 years have paid off!

Congratulations as well to Alsion (recreation), Gloria (RN) and Erlinda (care attendant) are currently going through the Dementia course offered through Vancouver Community Collage. All agreed this course has been informative and will add value to the work they do the frail elderly.

A proposal to purchase a picnic bench for the Manor staff room has been granted. The addition of this bench enables the staff to eat their meals and relax and enjoy fresh air during their breaks. The staff would like to thank the generosity of family members who make these worthwhile gifts possible.

Alzheimer’s Walk/Run 2001

Given that the venue for this popular event was moved to Surrey this year, team members at Inglewood set about organizing their own walk/run to be held on the North Shore. This Year we invite residents of the North Shore to join us at the Seymour Demonstration Forest at 6:00 PM on Friday June 22nd. Still sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C. we will be a part of their prizes and after run BBQ. Pledges will enable people and their families to better cope with this debilitating disease.

To fundraise for this event Inglewood is providing a “Twonie BBQ Lunch” for interested residents, staff and families on Thursday June 21st at 12:30 pm on the Lodge patio.
