Recreation Update...2000

July…

Inglewood, in partnership with four other organizations, celebrated the lifelong contribution of Ian Andrews to our community. Ian showed passion and commitment in everything he did. He brought people together for a common cause – he celebrated life. He was confidant, minister and friend to so many people and it was a pleasure to work so closely with him. Happy retirement Ian – thanks for helping us grow the distance….

In spite of a seemingly unpredictable summer, weather wise that is, recreation, volunteers and dietary staff helped our seniors celebrate the season with weekly barbecues. In this smaller, more intimate atmosphere, conversation, humor and friendships flourished.

August…

Our general annual meeting for Residents Council was held this month. Stepping down after four years was Mr. Ken Dale as chair. His business experience will be sadly missed. Good luck Ken! On the up side is a number of new members are joining the council. Continuing or new goals will be set and new perspectives added. In addition, the council has been asked to join the other councils in the region. This group meets quarterly and looks at much broader issues that relate to seniors in the community as well as those affecting them in continuing care. We hope to join them at their next meeting….

Our commitment at Inglewood is to keep our seniors as connected to the community as possible. In keeping will this philosophy, you may have seen us at restaurants, pubs, shopping, on cruises, drives, the theatre or even at the horse races. If there is an interest – we make it happen!

September…
We welcome back into our mist, many of other community volunteers –Dien East and the North Shore volunteers, our church groups and many returning secondary and university students.

Its time to say “HOWDY” at this year’s Western Round-up! The ladies have been busy baking apple pies, the gents cleaning the saddle gear. With the hat clapping, knee stomping country singer Even Kemp, and classic bronco demonstrations, this event was a real success. Oh and those pies? – well there was some very lucky door prize winners that were very popular during evening refreshments.

Coming Events….

On Friday, September 29 we will be hosting our second annual fall rummage sale. This is a great opportunity to look into purchasing some very affordable “second time around” medical supplies, furnishings and Knick Knacks. The old adage “ one persons junk is another’s treasure” has never been truer. Come out and see what bargains you find……

Oktoberfest this year will be celebrated on Friday October 6th. To the upbeat tunes of Umpapa bands, Bavarian beer, rye bread and sausage will add a uniquely European flavour to the event. Dressed for the occasion, it is the intent of our recreation personnel to facilitate some dancing, singing and as much merriment as possible…..see ya there!

….Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful. Thankful for the time, energy, commitment and innovation of our staff, families and community volunteers that allows Inglewood to be a better place to work, live and visit. Residents will be delivering a Special Thanksgiving prayer at dinner.

We’d like to welcome back our friends from St. Anthony’s School. Beginning on October 11, the grade two class, accompanied by some of the older students and teacher, will be visiting our residents. Our goal for these visits is to foster positive and productive relationships across the generations. We will begin these visits by sharing a topic both remember: Halloween pranks – ones we’ve done or always wanted to do!

Who are we and what are we about?…..find out when we unveil after our Halloween Masquerade on Friday, October 27. After kicking up a ruckus with the talented “Ralph Shaw”, door prizes will be given out for best costume representation in different categories. ALL are welcome to participate….
