This program is currently discontinued due to staffing shortage!
At the beginning of November, a group of eight Extended Care Unit residents began an exciting new fitness program of weight training with Recreation and Physiotherapy. This program, based on the latest research in seniors' fitness, is a personalized strength-training program designed to quickly increase strength needed to do everyday activities with more independence.
We are collecting data on the participants to track their gains in strength and independence. If this pilot program is successful, we hope to expand it to include residents throughout Inglewood and maybe even publish our results!
After only two weeks in the class, residents are remarking that it has become easier to move, they are walking better, and it is easier to get up out of a chair!
Stay tuned for updates on this class and other news from the Rehabilitation Team at Inglewood Care Centre.
