There are hundreds of free ebooks available at the University of Virginia
including over fifty Sherlock Holmes stories, four Dickens novels (with two
more in preparation), Poe, Shakespeare and many others - virtually any major
author whose work is now in the public domain. There is a free tool
available for turning your Word files into Reader format (it runs as a Word
2000 addin).
About these titles: 1,200 publicly-available ebooks from the University of
Virginia's Etext Center, including classic British and American fiction,
major authors, children's literature, American history, African-American
documents, and much more. Our thanks to
overdrive.com for their ebook-building software. Thousands more
titles (currently web versions only) can be found in the
Electronic Text Center's collections and projects, many of which are
publicly accessible.
