	Administrator’s Note

As part of Inglewood’s ongoing efforts to address the funding shortfalls imposed by the Health Authority, the administration at Inglewood has had to follow other care centers in taking the difficult decision to contract out their support services. It is with regret that all efforts to reach an agreement with the union have so far been unsuccessful and has left us with no alternative.

In our efforts to help support our staff, resource support staff are being brought in-house to council, help provide resources for accessing services, providing details and help with job searches. It is our hope that the new provider will offer many of those positions to our existing staff.

To provide you with more details and answer many of your questions, the Inglewood Family and Community Advisory Board has agreed to host an open forum on Thursday, November 6 between 7-9PM. Members of the board will call to invite you. Present that evening will be Hassan Hemani, representing ownership as well as Nick Whittle, Chief Financial Officer for Unicare.

It is in this climate of uncertainty that we must also announce that Ian Woodcock has submitted his resignation to move on to another opportunity. Stepping into his position in an in-term capacity to help navigate the upcoming changes is Nick Whittle, who comes to us with 17 years senior administration responsibilities. He also brings to this position a wealth of experience and insight with his most recent being with the Health Authority. We want to wish Ian well and every success in future endeavours and for his tireless efforts and guidance through many challenges the past 2 1/2 years. He will be missed…..

ACCREDITATION UPDATE

Mock Evacuation at Inglewood Care Centre

As you know October 16, 2003 was scheduled for our mock evacuation. Weather was not to be a major component to the exercise! However, it was a rain record event!!! Imagine this after all that dry, hot weather. Anyway, it didn’t dampen our spirits—we just got a wee bit damp!

We had many community volunteers and partners to help conduct this exercise. We must thank the 25 West Van High School drama students and their teacher, 5 ICC volunteers, Terasen representative, West Van Fire Dept. and the B.C. Ambulance Service (who was not able to arrive due to their many calls on such an extreme rainy day). The Leadership Team at Inglewood Care Centre participated during the drill as well as Hassan Hemani who was videotaping the activity.

Prior to the exercise most of the Manor residents were escorted to special programs in the Lodge and Terrace Area by extra staffing to ensure their safety and that their needs were met.

The exercise was an important part of our Accreditation process which will take place in the Spring of 2005. Six months of planning went into the evacuation procedure which included organizing and scheduling, educating our staff, and actually conducting the mock event

It was a valuable learning tool for all of us and now.

Bottle Donations

Donations of unopened bottles of anything (wine, shampoo, perfume, pickles, etc.) would be welcomed for the annual bazaar’s bottle table. All donations goes to the Residents Council. Drop off with Recreation staff.
