Preventing Influenza | ||||||||
| The importance of preventing flue outbreaks cannot be overstated. While the disease is self-limiting, typically lasting 1-2 days, it is highly contagious. In addition to the more common clinical symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea with headache, fever, muscle and abdominal pain, it may cause dehydration and complicate existing medical conditions among the elderly and those with suppressed immune systems. OUR FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE: Annual flu shot clinics are open to anyone working, living or visiting facilities on a regular basis ( clinic dates will be posted) Promoting good hand washing and careful personal hygiene SHOULD AN OUT BREAK OCCUR: Control the outbreak in this facility and limit further spread between residents as possible Prevent the spread of disease out of the facility, both to the public and other institutions by restricting staff and visitors not vaccinated. | ||||||||
