Coming Events 2000

What's New...

Our long awaited cookbook is here at last! “Stirring Up Classics: A Cookbook of Distinction” is on sale for $8.00 a copy. Never has there been a better time to pick up a special gift for Birthdays, Christmas, or just to say “Thank-you”. These books are a treasury of Inglewood family favorites and will be available from Recreation staff or at the Tuck shop. Proceeds to go to our Celebration Team and Resident’s Council.

We’ve risen to the challenge. The 30+ strong Inglewood Team members will be out in full force this year for the Alzheimer’s Walk/Run. We are proud to be sponsor this organization in its efforts on behalf of people suffering from dementia and their care givers. Together we can make a difference….

“Rename the Hospital Contest” A $100.00 prize has been donated by the Celebration team to rename our Extended and Special Care Units. The new name, like the Lodge and Manor should reflect the status of “home” and be compatible with the other two buildings. The deadline for this contest is July 3 and the winner will be announced at our staff recognition Barbecue on July 27th. Put on your thinking caps….

Spring Rummage Sale:
The Inglewood Residents Council is having their first spring rummage sale to be held on Saturday, May 6th, on the Lodge Patio. Families and friends are encouraged to donate all those "odds and ends" that  they don't " need, or care about" -- someone does!

The Inglewood Cookbook:
Thanks to our Residents, families and staff, the long awaited cookbook is being published. You won't have to wait much longer. Our "tried, tested and true" recipes will arrive in time for our first annual rummage sale -- one week before Mother's Day. Mark this day on your calendar -- they will sell fast.

The Longest Day Run '2000 (June)
Our team has competition this year. Will that damper our competitive spirit? Not a change! We're challenging not only greater participation from our team members, but other corporate teams a s well. Don't clap -- throw money! We are showing our support for this disabling disease, which is affecting the people we care about. Please show your support this June 16th, by making a donation to Alzheimer's research.

Events Calendar

JANUARY

Robbie Burns continues to be a favourite event for our residents of Scottish decent. Oh the kilts, the music, the dancing, the shortbread - a very traditional affair!

FEBRUARY

Celebrating the Year of the Dragon, residents, staff and family joined us for a Chinese Luncheon. This "take out" feast was supplied by Capilano Heights Restaurant – good food and good fortune was had by all.

This year's Valentines Day Social held a romantic ambience. Our very own Lori  McCoy serenaded us with love songs, tea and heart-shaped cookies sweetened our dispositions and the conversations centred on love connections. Could anything be better?

JUNE

Our “Reading Together” finale will be wrapping up another year. This intergenerational program between our seniors and the primary students at St. Anthony’s School was a huge success. Our goal was to provide meaningful relationships and increase literacy. On Monday June 19, we will be saying goodbye to our friends with a Pizza Party. Till next year…

100-year-old milestones don’t go unnoticed! Inglewood is proud to announce two new members to our “Centurion Club”. On June 17th and 24th respectively, we will be celebrating two separate and unique birthdays – one a big splash and one more intimate. Congratulations to both these individuals!

Family and friends are invited to join us on Friday June 16 for a Father’s Day Fiesta. Latin music, Sangria, and tapes are just some of the ways we plan to “rev up” Dad’s day and say “thank –you” to someone special….

Summer in Vancouver is the perfect venue for sailing! On June 22nd , 12 lucky seniors will set sail on the “Pride of Vancouver” for a 3 hour lunch cruise ….does it get any better than this?

We’d like to say welcome to our newest members of the North Shore Volunteers – Jim, Kim and Rhona! Jim and Kim are music therapy students at Capilano College while Rhona is a psychology student at Simon Fraser. Their program, called “Threes Company” will be spending an hour in the Manor and an hour on our dementia unit once weekly. This dynamic trio plan to implement specialty themes throughout the months of June, July and August. If you see them around….don’t hesitate to say HI!

At the end of this month bowling will be winding up for the summer. We’re hosting a tea complete will certificates and door prizes. With summer ahead, we’ll be replacing this program with ice-cream socials and an assortment of other out door fun! Let the games begin….

JULY

Tradition, Tradition, Tradition! Family and friends are once again invited to join us for our Annual Canada Day BBQ. Let good weather, good company, good music and good food remind us what it truly means to be Canadian….Come share  in the celebration!
