What does a mountain in Africa have to do with Inglewood Care
Centre?
Inglewood Care Centre is sponsoring Kim Jensen,
the physiotherapist and Team Leader for their Special Care Unit, in the
Alzheimer's Society of B.C.'s "Ascent for Alzheimer's".
On August 21, 1998, a team of eight individuals,
under the guidance of world-renowned climber Jim Haberl and naturalist Sue
Oakey, will travel to Tanzania,
Africa to climb the 19,350-foot Mount Kilimanjaro. This exciting
campaign is to raise public awareness of the disease, and to fund the work of
the ASBC. Climbing and reaching the summit symbolizes the journey of caregivers
and loved ones who are affected by dementia. Each climber has committed to
raising a minimum of $10,000 each to help further the mission of the
Alzheimer Society of B.C. and to cover some of the cost associated with
the climb.

Kim Jensen: "This is an
exciting opportunity to raise awareness about a disease I encounter every day.
Working with Inglewood's Special Care Unit residents and family members, I see
potentially devastating effects of dementia. Over 70% of those living in a
long-term care facility have some form of dementia. It is my goal to raise more
than $10,000 in support of the Society, which has been such a help to many of
Inglewood's members." |
