LIVING AT INGLEWOOD

CARE TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES:

The care team is made up of all Inglewood staff working together to provide quality care to residents. They communicate changes in resident's status to the on duty Nurse.

NURSING CARE:   

bullet personal care is provided by care aides and professional nurses 24 hours a day
bullet the primary nurse
bullet liaises with resident, family, and other care team members regularly to update care plan when requested or when care level changes
bullet communicates such changes immediately to all involved
bullet assists the family/designate and resident to solve problems or concerns in a timely manner

DIETARY:   
Meals:  

bullet residents are encouraged to go to the dining room for all meals
bullet daily menu posted outside dining rooms
bullet meal times:
bullet Breakfast at 0800 hours (8:00 AM)
bullet Lunch at 1200 hours (120 noon)
bullet Dinner at 1700 hours (5:00 PM)
bullet all meals are 30 minutes later in the Lodge

Special Diets: 

bullet therapeutic diets as ordered by the physician
bullet monitored by the dietitian after conferring with the resident, family, and physician


Snacks:

bullet offered between meals and before bed in the lounges
bullet consists of milk, juice, fruit, cookies, sandwiches, coffee, and tea etc.
bullet those residents on dietary supplements will have them delivered to their room as necessary

Room trays:

bullet available when residents are experiencing a short-term minor illness or a major long term illness

Alcohol:

bullet requires a written physician’s order
bullet stored and dispensed by the nurses
bullet resident or family is responsible for the purchase of the alcoholic beverages


Smoking:

bullet is not permitted in resident’s rooms or in any of the common areas. Smoking is permitted only in the heated smoking gazebo located outside next to the Lodge lounge and on the main patio of the Manor


Visitor meals:

bullet available at a minimal cost
bullet arrangements should be made in advance with the nurse in charge and authorized by the family
bullet payment may be made in cash at the time, or charged to the resident’s trust fund

PHARMACY / MEDICATIONS:

Medications are: 

bullet only ordered by physician
bullet distributed at meals and bedtime by the RN
bullet include over-the-counter and prescription medications
bullet no medications should be left or stored in the resident rooms
bullet costs not covered by Pharmacare will be billed to the resident or designate by the facility pharmacy

MEDICAL CARE:

bullet provided by resident’s family physician
bullet any necessary referrals/consultations are done by the family physician

PHYSIOTHERAPY:

bullet assess resident’s level of ambulation/ movement and his/her need for mobility aids
bullet exercises will be reviewed and practiced
bullet a user fee is applied to Intermediate Care residents

RECREATION THERAPY:

bullet residents are encouraged to attend the planned programs
bullet continue to assess residents and their needs for different programs
bullet special monthly social events include: celebration of residents’ birthdays, pub night and entertainment

HOUSEKEEPING

bullet resident’s rooms thoroughly cleaned weekly
bullet spot checks done daily
bullet public areas cleaned daily

VALUABLES: 

bullet if a resident has valuable papers or jewelry, we suggest that the family store these in a bank safety deposit box on behalf of the resident. Inglewood is not responsible for the loss of such items

LAUNDRY / CLOTHING:

bullet done by facility unless family wishes to do it (notes in room should be very clear if family doing laundry)
bullet facility does not provide ironing facilities
bullet clothing should be industrial machine washable and have a non-iron quality. Fabric that is non-flammable and retards the spread of fire is
preferable for the safety of the resident and all the other residents.
bullet bed linen and towels are washed weekly or more often as necessary
bullet all clothing brought in on admission or thereafter should be given to the nursing staff to be labeled by the laundry
bullet clothes picked up and delivered to the resident’s room
bullet we are not responsible for lost clothing or shrinkage

PASTORAL SERVICES:

bullet church services are held in the Lounges or in our Memorial Chapel. (Manor Activity Room), newly furnished with donations from family and friends in memory of their loved ones)
bullet services are held every Wednesday and on the first and third Sunday of each month, as well as on special occasions such as Remembrance Day, Christmas and Easter
bullet memorial services are held monthly to remember the lives of those residents who have died during the previous month.  Families are encouraged to attend.
bullet pastoral visitor available on the request of the resident or family

VOLUNTEERS Under the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator. Available for such activities as:

bullet entertainment events
bullet special events
bullet crafts
bullet music
bullet walks
bullet Accompanying resident to appointments upon request
bullet Anyone interested in being a volunteer should contact Susan White-Bona the Volunteer Coordinator (604-913-4730)

VACATIONS:

bullet residents are permitted up to 72 hours per week leave from the facility.
bullet all vacations exceeding 72 hours require a long-term care form completed and submitted to the nursing stations. These forms are available at the nursing stations
bullet the Health Authority permits 30 consecutive vacation days yearly
bullet notify the nurse 7 days in advance of vacation to arrange medications.

SAFETY FEATURES:

bullet call bell system through out the facility
bullet safety handrails in all corridors
bullet fenced patios
bullet security system in the multi-level care facility
bullet special security bracelets
bullet smoke detectors and complete sprinkler system through out

FIRE DRILLS:

bullet the West Vancouver Fire Department conducts regular inspections of the facility
bullet Fire drills are held each month in different areas of the facility to:
bullet ensure staff remains familiar with the evacuation procedures
bullet ensure that everyone knows what to do in the event of a fire in the building
bullet when a drill is in progress, we expect that visitors will take part in the drill and follow the instructions that are given by the staff
bullet during a drill, all incoming phone calls will be asked to phone back after the drill is completed. Please do not be offended if we refuse to connect your call during a drill.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

PODIATRY:

bullet podiatrist visits Inglewood every 6 weeks
bullet the user fee is charged to the resident’s trust fund

MEDICAL EQUIPMENT:

bullet Inglewood does not supply wheelchairs, walkers or specially prescribed equipment
bullet purchased or rented by resident/family on the advice of the occupational therapist, physiotherapist or physician
bullet should be clearly labelled upon arrival
bullet maintenance is the responsibility of the resident/family

HAIRDRESSER / BARBER:

bullet appointments are made directly through the hairdressers
bullet paid by resident usually through the trust account

DRY CLEANING:    

bullet picked up weekly
bullet billed to resident trust account

 

PERSONAL MAIL:    

bullet delivered to resident/family by facility staff.

TELEVISION:

bullet cablevision will be connected by facility staff (maintenance)
bullet cost is the responsibility of the resident or family and will be billed on monthly statement
bullet large screen TV’s are provided in each lounge area

TELEPHONE:

bullet each room is equipped with a phone jack and separate line to allow for
installation of an Inglewood Care Centre private telephone
bullet Connection and billing is done through Inglewood Care Centre
bullet a telephone is available for resident use in the Lodge Foyer and Lower Terrace Quite Room
bullet a pay telephone is located near the staff room in the Lower Terrace

NEWSPAPERS:

bullet ordered by resident/family through normal channels
bullet distributed to resident by facility staff
bullet billed directly to the resident/family by newspaper.

TRUST ACCOUNTS:

bullet service provided by the facility for residents to safely keep an agreed-upon sum of money to be used for the purpose of paying for such services as hairdressing, dry cleaning, family meal tickets. 
There is no service charge.
bullet established on admission by resident or family
bullet a monthly itemized statement will contain an accounting of the fund to date
bullet fund should not exceed $250.00, with a minimum of $50.00
bullet withdrawals and deposits can be made in the business office from 9:30 am - 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday (except holidays)
bullet fund is audited annually

TUCK SHOP:

bullet the Resident’s Council operates a gift shop selling toiletries, stamps and sweets
bullet items may be paid for by cash or charged to the resident’s trust account
bullet any profits go to the resident’s council

LIBRARY SERVICES: 

bullet an in-house library is located on the second floor of the Lodge
bullet the West Vancouver Library Bookmobile visits every Friday

 

TRANSPORTATION:

bullet residents/family are responsible for arranging individual transportation
bullet Handidart may be pre-booked by the family or the RN
bullet taxis are arranged and paid for by the resident or family through Coast Mountain Bus Company
bullet Inglewood bus is utilized for facility arranged outings. A small fee is charged to each participant and may be paid from the resident's trust fund
bullet if a resident is required to go off the premises and there is no family/designate to provide transportation, such as a taxi or ambulance, arrangements are made by the facility and billed to the resident's trust account

PRIVATE DUTY NURSES:

bullet arranged through Shylo Nursing Services (RN, care aides, & companions)
and paid for by the family after consultation with the Team Leader of the
unit
