Accreditation

Inglewood Care Centre is proud to be Accredited by Accreditation Canada (formally called the Canadian Counsel for Health Services Accreditation - CCHSA).  Accreditation is a voluntary process which many health care providers chose to participate in.  Accreditation is a non-profit, independent organization which provides detailed Standards focused on improving quality and safety in services.  This process occurs every three years and involves a great deal of effort from all levels - staff, management, residents, volunteers and family members.  More information about the process can be found on Accreditation Canada's website - http://www.accreditation.ca.

Inglewood was successfully Accredited in March 2007 "with report".  Upon successful completion of recommended follow-ups, full Accreditation was granted in September 2008.  Inglewood's previous Accreditation surveys occurred in 2001, and 2004.

Some strengths identified by the Surveyors in 2007 included:

  • Development of intergenerational programming and for introducing young people to the seniors at Inglewood

  • A very active volunteer program

  • Resident safety is viewed as a priority and regular education is provided to staff.  The capital budget prioritizing process includes resident safety as the top priority

  • External contracts for services such as podiatry, dentistry and audiology

  • There are a significant number of quality improvement initiatives ongoing in the home in the areas of falls, and staff and resident safety

  • Many events are held within the facility that promote the quality of work life including recognition programs, health and wellness programs, and the support for continuing education and onsite in-services

  • Great emphasis placed on Occupational  Health and Safety (OH&S) and keeping the workplace safe for staff

  • There are shortages of nurses in BC, but Inglewood is not having difficulty recruiting nurses

  • Workload measurement systems are applied to determine the ongoing level of care hours required and staff adjustments are made as appropriate

  • Rehabilitation was funded until 2003, but then discontinued.  Inglewood continues with the rehabilitation program even though the funding was discontinued

  • Community partners reported that they enjoy a positive working relationship with Inglewood

  • An interdisciplinary plan of care is established for each resident starting on the day of admission.  This plan of care is reviewed quarterly with input from the resident, family and members of the interdisciplinary team.  Realistic goals are agreed upon and monitored to determine the resident's ability to meet the goals

We are presently gearing up for the new Accreditation process, called QMENTUM.  Surveyors will be onsite in January 2010 to review our practices and determine if in fact we are still meeting the Standards.
